These tests range from simple ones, like having you read an eye chart, to complex tests, such as using a high-powered lens to visualize the tiny structures inside of your eyes. Therapeutic Treatment and Management of Ocular Disease
With the most modern techniques and diagnostic instruments Dr. Rosenthal is recognized as giving the most comprehensive medical eye exam possible. Examples of some of the newest technologizes utilized during an examination are:
- Computerized visual field analyzer: assess the potential presence of blind spots (scotomas), which could indicate eye diseases. A blind spot in the field of vision can be linked to a variety of specific eye diseases, depending on the size and shape of the scotoma. Many eye and brain disorders can cause peripheral vision loss and visual field abnormalities.
- Aberrometer and Autorefractor: measures the amount and type of correction needed to focus the eye. It does this by evaluating a beam of infrared light that the patient cannot see or feel.
- Corneal topographer: is a non-invasive medical imaging technique for mapping the surface curvature of the cornea, the outer structure of the eye. Since the cornea is normally responsible for some 70% of the eye’s refractive power its topography is of critical importance in determining the quality of vision and corneal health.
- Spectral Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (SD–OCT): is a non-contact medical imaging technology similar to ultrasound and MRI. With OCT, reflected light is used to produce detailed cross-sectional and 3D images of the eye.
